The Hummer H3 is a mid-size SUV introduced in 2006 as an accessible version of the Hummer brand, offering a balance of off-road capability and everyday usability. Based on the GMT355 platform shared with the Chevrolet Colorado, the H3 provided rugged Hummer styling and capability in a more manageable footprint. Although production ended in 2010, some units have been imported into Saudi Arabia, where they continue to appeal to buyers looking for distinctive design and genuine 4x4 performance.
The standard H3 came equipped with a 3.5-litre inline five engine producing approximately 220 horsepower and 305 Nm of torque. A later option included a 3.7-litre inline-five engine delivering around 239-242 horsepower and 328 Nm of torque. Later, the engine was upgraded to a 5.3 V8, producing 300 horsepower and 433 Nm of torque.
All engines were paired with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission and came standard with four-wheel drive.
The H3 carries the bold Hummer aesthetic with its upright stance, boxy silhouette, front grille with trunk-style slots, and flared wheel arches. Tube-style side steps and wide all-terrain tires emphasize its off-road focus. Optional accessories included roof racks, heavy-duty bumpers, tow hooks, and auxiliary lighting for enhanced utility and rugged appearance. The exterior was practical, featuring a removable rear window and a spare tire mounted on the tailgate.
The interior features a utilitarian yet comfortable design, complete with durable cloth or leather seating, supportive bolstering, and a functional layout. Cabin features included manual or power-adjustable front seats, simple climate controls, and a dashboard with large, easily readable gauges. Exclusive trims added a CD player or AM/FM radio, an optional navigation system, cruise control, and a sunroof. The rear seating area could accommodate three passengers with reasonable legroom, and the rear cargo area included fold-flat seats to expand storage volume.
The H3 featured standard safety systems, including front dual airbags, anti-lock brakes with traction control, and optional side airbags on higher trims. Off-road hardware included a two-speed transfer case, electronic locking rear differential, and hill-descent control on specific packages. The suspension and chassis design allowed for strong ground clearance and wheel articulation. Later production models added electronic stability control as a standard feature.
Imported Hummer H3 models in KSA do not come with factory-backed warranties; however, some dealers may offer third-party plans. Maintenance is typically handled by workshops familiar with American SUVs and 4x4 platforms. Routine servicing includes oil and filter changes, transmission fluid, brake service, suspension checks, and transfer case maintenance. Sourcing parts is supported by GMC/LH networks and specialty suppliers dealing in legacy Hummer components for ongoing reliability.
In the mid-size off-road SUV segment, the H3 competed with vehicles such as the Toyota 4Runner, Nissan Patrol, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Mitsubishi Pajero. It stood out due to its bold, military-inspired design, full-time four-wheel drive capability, and cult following. Buyers seeking a standout vehicle with authentic off-road ability often regarded the H3 as a distinctive alternative to more mainstream SUVs.
