The Chevrolet Spark was a compact city car positioned as one of Chevrolet’s most affordable and practical models. Designed for urban driving, the Spark combined compact dimensions with fuel efficiency, easy maneuverability, and a surprisingly spacious interior for its size. It appealed to young drivers, first-time buyers, and families seeking a budget-friendly second vehicle. Over several generations, the Spark gained recognition globally as one of Chevrolet’s key city cars. In Saudi Arabia, the Chevrolet Spark was available through imports but has since been phased out, making it a discontinued import car in the KSA market.
The Chevrolet Spark was offered with a range of small petrol engines depending on the market. Common configurations included a 1.0-liter 4-cylinder engine producing approximately 68 horsepower and a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine with a maximum power output of up to 85 horsepower. Transmission options included a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic, later updated with a CVT in newer versions.
Performance was modest, with 0–100 km/h times ranging from 12 to 14 seconds, depending on the engine. However, fuel economy was one of its greatest strengths, averaging between 16–18 km/L, making it a practical choice for city commuting. The Spark’s lightweight and compact footprint allowed it to excel in tight urban environments while still offering efficiency for longer trips.
The Chevrolet Spark exterior design evolved across its generations, starting with a simple, boxy shape and gradually adopting a more modern, dynamic look. Later versions featured sharp headlights, a dual-port grille, and sculpted body lines that gave it a sporty character despite its size. The hatchback layout maximized practicality, while alloy wheels, roof rails, and body-colored accents in higher trims added to its youthful appeal.
Inside, the Chevrolet Spark interior was designed to be practical yet stylish for its segment. The cabin featured a digital-analog instrument cluster, a compact dashboard, and user-friendly controls. Upholstery was typically cloth in base trims, while higher trims offered upgraded materials and accent stitching. Despite being a small car, the Spark made clever use of space, with decent headroom and legroom for its class, along with versatile rear seats that could fold to expand cargo space.
Technology in the Spark was competitive for its class. Depending on the trim, it offered a touchscreen infotainment system with Chevrolet’s MyLink interface, supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports, and steering-wheel-mounted controls added convenience for daily driving.
Safety equipment included dual front airbags, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, and stability control in higher trims. Later models also featured side airbags, rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera, making it a safe choice for urban use despite its compact size.
As the Chevrolet Spark is now a discontinued import car in Saudi Arabia, it no longer benefits from official dealer-backed warranty or maintenance services. Owners rely on independent workshops and parts suppliers to maintain their vehicles. Thanks to its mechanical simplicity and wide global presence during its production years, servicing remains relatively easy and affordable for those who own it today.
During its availability, the Chevrolet Spark competed with other city cars such as the Kia Picanto, Hyundai i10, and Toyota Aygo. While rivals often had stronger brand recognition and wider dealer networks, the Spark stood out for its youthful styling, efficient engines, and modern technology features at a competitive price point. In Saudi Arabia, it appealed to urban drivers seeking an affordable compact hatchback, but today it remains only in the used market as a discontinued import car.
