The Land Rover LR4, known globally as the Discovery 4, is a premium mid-size SUV that offers a rare combination of luxury, versatility, and serious off-road capability. Introduced to the Saudi Arabian market in 2010 as the successor to the LR3, the LR4 refined the formula with improved performance, enhanced interiors, and updated styling. It maintained the ruggedness expected of a Land Rover while offering the comfort and technology typically found in a modern luxury SUV. The LR4 was available until 2016, when the all-new Discovery replaced it. It remains a strong contender in KSA’s used SUV segment.
In KSA, the LR4 was offered with a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine producing 340 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. This engine was paired with an 8-speed unit for smoother and more efficient performance.
Full-time four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, and Land Rover’s Terrain Response system made the LR4 highly capable off-road. It handled dunes, rocky trails, and deep wadi crossings with ease, making it a popular choice for adventurous drivers in KSA. Despite its size, the LR4 delivered a smooth and composed ride on the highway.
The LR4 retained the distinctive boxy silhouette of its predecessor but featured updates for a more refined look.
The LR4 interior was designed with comfort and practicality in mind.
Given its powerful V8 engine and full-time four-wheel drive, the LR4 achieved an average fuel economy of around 8.3 km/l in mixed driving conditions. While fuel economy was not its strong suit, its performance and capability made up for it in terms of utility and confidence on all terrains.
The LR4 featured a comprehensive suite of technology for both comfort and safety. Terrain Response, hill descent control, electronic air suspension, navigation, and Bluetooth were standard in most trims.
Safety features included front and side airbags, ABS, stability control, and rearview cameras. Later models added blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and advanced infotainment systems.
In KSA, the LR4 was available in classic Land Rover shades such as blue and metallic brown or green. These colors enhanced its luxurious yet rugged appeal.
In the KSA used car market, the Land Rover LR4 competes with models like the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Lexus GX. While it may require more maintenance, it stands out for its unmatched off-road capability, spacious interior, and high-end features. For buyers seeking a luxury SUV that can truly go anywhere, the LR4 remains a compelling choice.
