The Hyundai Genesis is a premium full-size sedan that marked Hyundai's bold entry into the luxury car segment. Launched in Saudi Arabia in 2009, it offered high-end comfort, advanced technology, and strong performance at a more affordable price than many European and Japanese rivals. It remained on sale until 2016 and is now popular in the KSA used car market.
The Genesis in KSA was offered with two engine options. The base 3.8-liter V6 produced around 311 horsepower and 397 Nm of torque. A more powerful 5.0-liter V8 delivered 420 horsepower and 519 Nm of torque. Both engines were paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, providing smooth and refined performance.
The Genesis featured a sleek and elegant exterior with a large chrome-accented grille, HID headlights, and clean lines. Chrome trim, 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, and dual exhaust tips added to its upscale look. The design was refined and understated, fitting for a luxury sedan.
Inside, the Genesis offered a spacious, high-quality cabin. Standard features included leather seats, woodgrain accents, and soft-touch materials. Higher trims added ventilated front seats, a power rear sunshade, and driver memory settings. Rear seat space was generous, making it comfortable for passengers on longer drives.
The V6 version of the Genesis delivered around 8.3–9 km/l, while the V8 averaged about 6.8–7.4 km/l. These figures were typical for full-size luxury sedans in this segment.
The Genesis was equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, Bluetooth, and a premium Lexicon sound system. Safety features included ABS, multiple airbags, traction control, and electronic stability control. Higher trims offered adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, a rearview camera, and keyless start.
In KSA, the Genesis was available in classic luxury colors such as black, silver, white, grey, dark blue, and beige. These shades matched its refined design and premium image.
In the used car market, the Genesis competes with the Lexus GS, BMW 5 Series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. While it may not match their brand image or resale value, it offers similar luxury and performance at a lower price. For value-conscious buyers, the Genesis remains a compelling full-size luxury sedan.
