Saudi Partners with Archer Aviation to Launch Electric Air Taxis by 2030
In a groundbreaking move, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has entered into a strategic partnership with Archer Aviation to bring electric air taxis (eVTOLs) to the Kingdom. This collaboration, announced on December 10, 2025, is a significant step for Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 transportation goals. These goals include embracing next-generation air mobility solutions.
Under the agreement, GACA and Archer aim to establish a clear regulatory pathway for the introduction of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft across the Kingdom. The framework will be aligned with international standards, particularly the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification guidelines, ensuring safety, consistency, and global interoperability for these innovative air transport systems.
The Role of GACA and Archer Aviation in eVTOL Development
The partnership between GACA and Archer Aviation fothe cuses on developing a robust regulatory framework for the eVTOL industry and conducting proof-of-concept flights to test operations. This initiative will also involve the creation of infrastructure necessary for electric air taxis. This includes charging stations and designated landing zones.
Captain Sulaiman bin Saleh Al-Muhaimedi, Executive Vice President for Aviation Safety and Environmental Sustainability at GACA, highlighted the importance of this collaboration. He stated, “This MoU is an important step in advancing the Kingdom’s vision for Advanced Air Mobility. By working with global partners such as Archer, we continue to strengthen the regulatory and operational foundations needed to integrate eVTOL aircraft into our aviation system safely.”
The project will focus on pilot programs in major cities such as Riyadh and Jeddah. This includes the Red Sea Global initiative, in line with the Kingdom’s broader goals to modernize its transport infrastructure.
Testing and Public Engagement to Fuel Growth
To accelerate the introduction of electric air taxis, GACA and Archer will conduct a series of experimental flights and demonstrations. These tests will serve to refine regulatory approaches and showcase the capabilities of eVTOL aircraft to the public. The goal is to stimulate interest and excitement around the new air transportation model. At the same time, it builds confidence in its safety and reliability.
Adam Goldstein, CEO of Archer Aviation, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “Saudi Arabia is moving with impressive speed and clarity, and we are honored that GACA has chosen to collaborate with Archer in this effort. Launching demonstration operations in the Kingdom will help us bring this program to life safely and quickly.“
A Vision for Sustainable, Advanced Air Mobility
This collaboration is a key part of Saudi Arabia’s broader vision for sustainable and advanced air mobility. The electric air taxis will reduce the Kingdom’s carbon footprint. They will also improve urban mobility by offering an alternative to ground-based transportation. By 2030, Saudi Arabia aims to lead in air mobility. The country plans to have advanced systems in place to meet the growing demand for faster, cleaner transportation.
As electric air taxis become a reality, Saudi Arabia continues to position itself at the forefront of aviation innovation. Blending regulatory foresight with technological advancement. This initiative sets the stage for a new era in air travel. It could redefine how people move within cities and across the Kingdom.
