Lucid, Nuro and Uber Unveil Next-Gen Robotaxi at CES 2026
At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Lucid Group, Nuro, and Uber unveiled a production-intent robotaxi that could redefine ride-hailing later this year. The unveiling marks a significant step toward bringing autonomous vehicles from testing into real-world service. That with on-road trials already underway and a broader launch expected in the San Francisco Bay Area before the end of 2026.
A New Era for Autonomous Ride-Hailing
The robotaxi is built on the all-electric Lucid Gravity SUV, offering seating for up to six passengers and generous luggage space. It features a cutting-edge autonomous system developed by Nuro, including high-resolution cameras, solid-state lidar, and radar sensors that provide 360-degree awareness. A distinctive roof-mounted sensor array, called the “halo,” incorporates LED lighting to help riders identify their vehicle and display trip status.
Inside, Uber has designed an intuitive in-cab experience with interactive screens that let passengers control comfort settings, such as heated seats, climate, and music. Riders can view planned routes in real time, contact support, or request the vehicle to pull over if needed. A first for public demonstrations of autonomous ride-hail technology.
The companies emphasize that this robotaxi aims to be safe, reliable, and scalable. On-road testing began in December 2025 in the San Francisco Bay Area. With supervised prototypes as part of a broader safety and validation plan that also includes closed-course testing and simulations.

The robotaxi’s autonomous capabilities are powered by Nvidia’s DRIVE AGX Thor computing platform. This high-performance system handles perception, planning, and real-time decision-making while integrating data from cameras, lidar, and radar to guide the vehicle through complex urban environments.
Level-4 autonomy will allow these vehicles to operate without human intervention in defined areas once validation and regulatory approval are complete. While safety operators are still present during on-road trials, this testing is a key milestone toward full deployment.
