Saudi Arabia is accelerating its transition to electric mobility. In a groundbreaking move, Foxconn Interconnect Technology’s joint venture Smart Mobility with Saleh Suleiman Alrajhi & Sons will begin building a state-of-the-art EV charger factory in Saudi Arabia this December, the company announced. Production is expected to roll out in 2026, marking a significant boost for the kingdom’s electric vehicle infrastructure.
Powering the EV Revolution
At an event in Taipei, FIT Chairman Sidney Lu announced that the Middle East’s first manufacturing base dedicated to EV chargers will be located in Saudi Arabia, with construction set to begin in December 2025 and full operations expected to commence in 2026. This factory is not just another plant—it’s central to Saudi Arabia’s goal of having 30% of all cars electrified by 2030, said Prince Fahad bin Nawaf Al Saud, CEO of Smart Mobility.
Strategic Moves & Acquisitions
To gear up for this factory, FIT has already made key moves:
- Acquired Germany’s Prettl SWH Group—now rebranded as FIT Voltaira—in 2023
- Bought Auto-Kabel Group in 2024
- Together, these firms enhance their capacity and expertise in producing high-quality EV charger components globally.
Therefore, these steps underline why the upcoming EV charger factory in Saudi Arabia is more than just production—it’s a vertical integration of technology, design, and supply chain for the EV era.
What’s at Stake
The planned factory is expected to generate significant revenue. FIT estimates its auto mobility segment will bring in about USD 700 million this year alone. Beyond numbers, the new facility signals multiple wins:
- Localized manufacturing, reducing import dependency for EV charging infrastructure
- Job creation and technology transfer in Saudi Arabia
- Faster deployment of electric vehicle infrastructure, which can encourage more consumers and companies to switch to EVs
Looking Ahead
Although officials are still finalizing the site location, factory capacity, and investment details, the EV charger factory in Saudi Arabia clearly marks a significant milestone in the Gulf’s EV roadmap.
As construction begins in December and operations ramp up in 2026, keep an eye out for announcements regarding the facility’s location, export plans, and the rate at which it will supply chargers across Saudi Arabia’s cities and highways.
