Ford is charging full speed into Saudi Arabia’s fast-evolving car market. The American automaker is preparing to launch its first fully electric SUV, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, in the Kingdom this November, according to Arab News. The move marks a bold step into the region’s growing electric-mobility future.
A New Electric Chapter for Ford in Saudi Arabia
Ford will bring an initial batch of 500 to 1,000 units of the Mustang Mach-E to gauge the interest in electric vehicles among Saudi drivers. It’s the first time the brand will offer a full-battery EV in the Kingdom.
Ravi Ravichandran, President of Ford Middle East and North Africa, said the launch represents a significant milestone. “We want to understand how customers here embrace electric mobility,” he noted, acknowledging that EV adoption in the Gulf still faces challenges such as charging infrastructure, battery performance in hot climates, and price sensitivity.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E will arrive alongside Ford’s new Territory Hybrid, designed for buyers who want better fuel efficiency but aren’t ready to go fully electric. It’s part of a broader strategy to give Saudi customers more electrified choices without compromising the power and practicality they expect from Ford.
Ford’s Strong Momentum in the Kingdom
Ford’s latest regional performance shows the company gaining serious traction in Saudi Arabia. Sales are up 16 percent compared with last year, the brand’s best August performance since 2016. Ford now ranks fifth among all carmakers in Saudi Arabia and is currently the fastest-growing automotive brand in the Middle East.
This year alone, Ford has introduced several refreshed models, including the all-new Expedition and the Territory Hybrid, at an exclusive driving event in Riyadh. The brand is also investing heavily in connected-car technology, hybrid innovation, and after-sales support across the region.
“Saudi Arabia is one of our most important growth markets,” said Ravichandran. “Our focus is on delivering vehicles that meet the needs of local drivers while supporting the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 sustainability goals.”
The Road Ahead for EVs in Saudi Arabia
While interest in electric vehicles is rising, experts agree that Saudi Arabia’s charging network needs to expand quickly. The government-backed company EVIQ, a joint venture between the Public Investment Fund and Saudi Electricity Company, plans to install 5,000 fast chargers at more than 1,000 locations nationwide, working with global automakers to make EV ownership practical and convenient.
For now, hybrid vehicles like the Territory Hybrid may act as a bridge between conventional cars and full EVs, helping drivers ease into the change while infrastructure and incentives catch up.
A Confident Start to an Electric Future
Ford’s upcoming Mustang Mach-E launch is more than just a new model announcement; it’s a clear sign that the Kingdom’s automotive landscape is transforming. As charging stations spread and more brands introduce EVs, Saudi Arabia’s roads are gearing up for a future where performance and sustainability share the same lane.
