Abounian & Nextpower Launch Saudi Solar Hub to Boost EVs

Vision 2030

Abunyan Holding Company and US-based Nextpower have launched their joint venture, Nextpower Arabia, headquartered in Riyadh. The project aims to localize solar energy production in the Middle East and North Africa while driving the growth of electric vehicles, a key focus of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

By combining renewable energy with industrial development, the initiative positions Saudi Arabia as a hub for sustainable mobility and regional electric vehicle infrastructure.

Jeddah Facility: Powering Sustainable Transport

Nextpower Arabia will establish a 42,000-square-meter manufacturing facility in Jeddah, set to open in the second quarter of 2026. The factory will produce advanced solar-tracking systems, contributing to the regional supply capacity of 9 gigawatts.

Relying on local raw materials like Saudi iron, the project strengthens domestic manufacturing and supports electric vehicles with clean, locally generated energy. The facility will also create 2,000 jobs. Emphasizing the development of national engineering and technical talent critical to advancing EV technologies.

Khaled Abunayyan, Chairman of Abunayyan Holding, highlighted that partnering with Nextpower enhances the Kingdom’s ability to localize advanced technology. He added that the collaboration will create sustainable value and help drive the electric vehicles market.

Leadership and Vision 2030 Alignment

Turki Al-Omari, CEO of Nextpower Arabia, described the facility as central to delivering efficient and cost-effective clean energy. He added that it will power electric vehicles and support regional transport solutions.

Dan Sugar, CEO of Nextpower, stressed the importance of combining Abunayyan’s 75-year regional experience with Nextpower’s global portfolio, which exceeds 150 GW.

Nextpower Arabia’s past projects include major solar plants totaling 6 GW in Sakaka, Sudair, Tabuk, and Dubai’s Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. These successes showcase the venture’s ability to scale renewable energy solutions essential to electric vehicle adoption.

Investment Driving Sustainable Mobility

This project began with an $88 million investment (approximately 330M SAR) to localize production and seize growth opportunities in the region. Middle East solar capacity is projected to surpass 180 gigawatts by 2030. This project will reduce costs, enhance competitiveness, and accelerate the adoption of EVs across the Kingdom and the MENA region.

Conclusion

Nextpower Arabia is a pivotal step toward realizing Vision 2030 by linking renewable energy, local industry, and sustainable mobility. By powering electric vehicles with homegrown solar energy, KSA is leading the region toward cleaner, smarter, and more efficient transportation.
