2026 Jeep Recon EV Debuts with Trail-Ready Electric Performance

The highly anticipated Jeep Recon EV has officially been revealed, marking one of Jeep’s most ambitious steps yet into the electric SUV category. Designed from the ground up as an electric off-road machine, the 2026 model offers a mix of rugged capability, modern technology, and serious performance, positioning it as a standout in the growing EV landscape.

Built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, Jeep describes it as “a midsized two-row, off-road-focused SUV,” designed to echo the square-shouldered attitude of traditional Jeep utility vehicles. Its boxy shape isn’t just for looks. It sets the stage for the Recon’s impressive power and capability.

Power and Performance: 650 HP of Electric Muscle

Under the hood, the Jeep Recon EV packs a punch with dual electric motors generating 650 horsepower and 840 Nm of torque. According to Jeep, this setup allows it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, putting it squarely in performance-SUV territory.

However, the aerodynamic realities of its off-road-friendly shape come into play. The vehicle has a drag coefficient of 0.404, which affects its overall efficiency. Even so, Jeep’s focus here isn’t on maximizing range. It’s on ensuring the Recon remains a true off-road performer while embracing electrification.

Rugged Hardware Built for Trails

The “Moab” launch edition underscores the SUV’s off-road intent. This trim arrives equipped with 33-inch all-terrain tires, 9.1 inches of ground clearance, and Jeep’s advanced Selec-Terrain system featuring a dedicated Rock Mode. An electronically locking rear differential enhances traction in challenging conditions.

Jeep Recon includes a full suite of sturdy, high-strength steel underbody shields and large-diameter half shafts and CV joints engineered with going anywhere in mind. These features signal that the Recon is not just to look rugged, but to perform reliably on demanding terrain.

Inside, the cabin showcases modern tech with a 14.5-inch central touchscreen paired with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Jeep also highlights a modular accessory rail designed for mounting navigation devices, cameras, or even small personal items, a nod to the brand’s focus on customization.

Battery, Range, and Charging Details

Powering the Jeep Recon EV is a 100.5-kWh battery pack using 400-volt architecture. Range varies depending on trim: the Moab edition offers an estimated 230 miles, while other configurations are expected to reach around 250 miles.

Jeep estimates that charging from 5% to 80% using a DC fast charger will take approximately 28 minutes. For drivers planning more extensive off-road adventures, charging considerations will be key, but Jeep’s positioning indicates the SUV is optimized for performance and capability first.

Jeep Recon EV Price

The Jeep Recon EV starting price is $65,000. The Moab trim will launch first.

What the Launch Means for Jeep’s EV Future

The arrival of the Jeep Recon EV marks a significant milestone for the brand as it expands its electric offerings while maintaining its signature off-road DNA. With a powerful dual-motor setup, durable components, and a trail-focused design, the Recon aims to attract Jeep loyalists interested in electrification and EV shoppers seeking something more adventurous.

Jeep’s confidence in the Recon’s capabilities suggests it believes the market will embrace an electric SUV built for terrain rather than efficiency alone. However, the limited range may become a sticking point.

The Jeep Recon EV is more than just an EV debut. It represents a bold step toward the future of electric off-roading.
